What is a root canal treatment?
A root canal treatment or an endodontic treatment is meant to save a severely injured, cracked, or decayed tooth when its pulp (the inner nerve) becomes acutely inflamed or infected. If it is not treated immediately, pain or a tooth abscess (swelling) results.
Do “root canals” hurt?
We all have heard terrifying stories about ’root canals’. Most of it is simply a misinterpretation. The very treatment is not supposed to be painful. We, at TROPHY SMILE STUDIO, always make sure our patients are properly numb for their treatment. We never work on you if you are not sufficiently anesthetized. It’s just that simple! So, why do patients dread ‘root canals’ and consider them painful? Well, it is really all about what happens prior to your coming to see us. To put it simply: if there is an infection and/or inflammation that affects your nerve (pulp) directly – obviously you will experience a lot of pain and discomfort. Of course, prevention is always the smartest choice but, as it happens in our lives, sometimes we just wait a little too long to address certain issues.
So, if you are experiencing a severe, irradiating, throbbing pain, if it is associated with swelling inside or outside your mouth, you may have a nerve infection within your tooth that may require a root canal therapy.
